Accounting Technician

Roles and Responsibilities:

Calculate fixed assets and depreciation
Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems
Maintain general ledgers and financial statements
Post journal entries
Prepare other statistical, financial and accounting reports
Prepare tax returns and perform other personal bookkeeping services
Prepare trial balance of books
Reconcile accounts
May assist in preparing US tax returns.

Education and Skills Requirements:

Completion of courses in accounting is required.
US tax experience is a strong asset.
Ability to work independently, Attention to detail, Tight deadlines, Work under pressure.
Accurate, Client focus, Dependability, Efficient interpersonal skills, Excellent oral and written communication, Flexibility, Judgement, Organized, Reliability, Team player, Time management, Adaptability.
Accounting software, Caseware/Caseview, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Windows, MS Word, Quick Books, TaxPrep, MS Office are required.
Language: English is required.

Education:
Completion of high school is required.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of experience as an accounting technician, bookkeeper, financial or accounting clerk combined. In the event that the candidate does not have 2 years of experience as a bookkeeper, financial or accounting clerk combined, then completion of a college program in accounting, bookkeeping or a related field OR completion of two years (first level) of a recognized professional accounting program (e.g., Chartered Accounting, Certified General Accounting) are required.
Important Information:

Flexibility with the schedule is required. The regular working hours are Monday to Friday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with a 60-minute unpaid lunch break. The employee will have weekends off, with leave granted on Saturdays and Sundays. During tax season (March and April), work on Saturdays will be necessary. To compensate for the additional hours worked, the employee will receive Fridays off and shorter working hours (9:00 AM to 5:30 PM) during the summer months (July and August).
